Ondina is a new Mermaid in Season 2. She is played by Isabel Durant. Ondina starts off in the new season determined to break Zac's connection to Mako. However, throughout the time she spends on land, she realizes he isn't as much of a threat as the pod made him out to be.
Ondina is a mermaid from the Mako Island pod who decides that she and Mimmi must go against the mermaid council's rules and run away to drain Zac of his powers. Ondina and Mimmi are best friends, but often argue when Ondina thinks she can do things on her own and never listen to Mimmi. Because of this, she often needs Mimmi's help getting out of sticky situations. They have both returned to Mako from the pod thinking Zac will still try to take over the moon pool. Neither of them trust Sirena enough since she's made a life on land with Rita and David, but eventually they have to give in and get legs to complete their mission of breaking Zac's connection to Mako. Sirena eagerly takes them in as friends, having been lonely without Lyla and Nixie. The three mermaids develop a bond through the series. When Ondina and Mimmi decide save Zac's life after finding out that Zac is Mimmi's brother, Veridia (the head of the mermaid council) becomes angry and tells them they are no longer a part of the pod for their disloyalty towards one of their own.
During season 2 and for most of season 3, Ondina develops a relationship with Erik despite him being a merman. Although his interest and curiosity for Mako Island often rises distrust among others in the group and even Ondina herself, she is convinced he's trustworthy until he betrays the group.
Trivia
- Ondina develops a friendship with Zac much later in the series, much like Lyla did in the previous season.
- Ondina and Erik are a couple in season 2 but eventually break up.
- Ondina may be the season 2-equivalent of Lyla.
- Ondina and Mimmi show frightened faces just like Sirena, Nixie & Lyla did when they first met Poseidon.
- She doesn't tell Mimmi & Sirena at first that she is dating Erik.
